AIDS World Day

To mark the World AIDS day on December 1st the Madeleine-Sanam Foundation started remembering the World in 2007 by organizing AIDS awareness week in the Francophone High School École Maurice-Lavallée. The Madeleine-Sanam Foundation first trained students from grade 11 & 12 to become trainers of their peers. After they received their training the youth chose to create a sketch using student culture and languages to address the HIV/AIDS among their peers. In order to raise awareness, a few students from Junior High produced a documentary in which they had interviewed staff, specialist on HIV/AIDS and their classmates. The week obtained such a success that the school principal decided to extend the program into following year. In 2008, 300 red ribbons were distributed across the school and in 2009, one additional High school, Ecole Gabrielle-Roy, participated in the World Aids day where 600 red ribbons were donated by the Foundation to both schools. In addition 200 ribbons were also distributed at Joseph Moreau in 2009, a new French High school in the Ritchie neighbourhood.
