Mission
The Madeleine Sanam Foundation works for the development of the autonomy of African women and the well-being
of the handicapped with programs in community health and economy.
The Madeleine Sanam Foundation is an organization consisting of two branches centered on women’s development:
A local branch in community health and economy in Alberta (Canada) and an international branch in community
health and economy for women in rural areas in Bafia (Cameroon)
Vision
We believe that the outcome is the primary determinant in health; as a result, the economical power of women is essential in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The Foundation follows global strategies of fight against HIV/AIDS as adopted by the United Nations (UNAIDS) which are similar to Canadian strategies of fight against HIV/AIDS.
For instance, to be more efficient against HIV/AIDS, our programs must consider social factors such as the
poverty of women and act on the health determinants
Most African women are poor and many are single parents; this is why we also support the poverty relief
projects. Poverty relief lets women be less dependent on men for their financial well-being.
The foundation believes in globalization. In other words, the fight against AIDS must be done worldwide
because of the movement of populations between continents. Canada has a long tradition in supporting
non-profit organizations in Africa and, consequently, we believe that our members must contribute not only
for the benefit of Canadian communities, but also for the benefit of African populations that are in the
affected countries and in refugee camps. This is why we created an international branch in community health
and one branch in economy.
