PolygamyIt is the act of getting married to many female spouses simultaneously. Polygamy is an African traditional and religious practice that finds its origin in Near East. Men got married to many spouses for economical reasons and for the peopling of colonies and villages. Children births that come from these weddings give cheap workers. Polygamy becomes an HIV infection risk because of the unsafe sexual activity which may take place. A polygamous man often has sexual extramarital relations without protection and is then, exposing his women to HIV and AIDS. The HIV virus is more concentrated in the man’s sperm because of the high concentration of protein that is in contact with the woman’s vaginal secretions. The HIV virus is more concentrated in sperm because of it has a higher protein level than vaginal secretions. Women are more vulnerable in that case to the HIV infection risks because they are less in position to impose the condom to their husband because of the conflicts that can come with this demand. The sexual roles in the society let the African men to refuse to put a condom. |
