Madeleine has greatly contributed to the health of women and has distributed contraceptive pills to many of them in a country where the cost of these pills equaled a woman’s weekly salary. Strongly defending the Pro-choice option, she helped many women who had been abused in interrupting unwanted pregnancies. Madeleine had always thought that a child has the right to be born and to live, however this child must live in a healthy environment where his/her personal development will be advantaged.

She was against arranged weddings that obliged African women to enter helpless situations under strong social pressures.

The Madeleine Sanam Foundation was founded in the memory of Madeleine in the hope of helping African women in having access to financial freedom and to be in control of their health.
